There are several themes in the play “The Merchant of Venice.” Some of them are as follows: Firstly, the play has the theme of self-interest versus love and the play depicts it through different religious channels. The Christian characters in the play are found to have more value on human relationship over money than Jewish Character, Shylock where he is more towards money than relationship. Antonio on one side is ready to borrow money and risk his life for the sake of his love towards his friend Bassanio.
